Playing at home, Luke Schlemmer, Westville’s Captain won the toss and elected to bowl, as his bowlers were eager to get stuck into the inexperienced Northwood batting line up.

His decision certainly paid dividends as strike bowler, Jesse Smit dismissed both the opening batsman in quick succession leaving Northwood sitting on 17-2. Northwood continued to lose wickets with monotonous regularity and the highest scoring period of their innings was a 9th wicket partnership which produced 27 runs. This allowed them to reach 100/10 in 26.4 overs. The man who did the most damage from Westville was Luke Schlemmer, newly selected as vice captain of the KZN U19 Cricket team. In 4.4 overs, he took 3 wickets for 15 runs.

A highlight for Westville Boys in the 1st innings, was the fielding of the team. They seemed like men possessed. The run out made by Bruce Kerr was a beauty and a Jonty Rhodes special. With one stump to aim at, Bruce Kerr swooped in on the ball, quickly aimed and struck the stumps to remove K. Rawlings of Northwood. Also the brilliant catch by Captain Luke Schlemmer was a reflection of the hard work put in by the boys at fielding sessions. He took a stunner at 1st slip to remove the opposite Captain Dale Van Der Merwe, a huge threat as Van Der Merwe is well known for his big hitting abilities.

The 2nd Innings did not start off as planned for the home team.

Westville’s opening batsman and KZN Cricketer, Jason Oakes lost his wicket early through an LBW dismissal. A good partnership between KZN U17 Cricketer, Bruce Kerr and U19 KZN Cricketer, Nick Pentz then followed yielding 85 runs. Bruce Kerr lost his wicket late in the chase, which brought in captain Luke Schlemmer to finish off the job with WBHS reaching 102 for the loss of two wickets in 20.5 overs.
