Nelson MandelaOn behalf of the Westville Boys’ High School community, including educators, learners, and the Governing Body, I offer my condolences to the family of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, following his passing on the evening of 5 December 2013.

We join all South Africans in mourning the death of South Africa’s first democratically elected President.

Nelson Mandela led a life of sacrifice.  His legacy has touched all us in so many ways. He reminds us never to accept injustice, but to devote our lives to bettering the lives of our fellow citizens.

Let us use this period of mourning to reflect on our own lives, and to recommit to building our nation.

The School has responded to the call of President Zuma in his address to the nation last night that all flags should be flown at half-mast.  It is fitting that the flagpole on which the flag is currently flying half-mast was donated to the school by the Class of 1994, the first class to matriculate from Westville Boys’ High School in a democratic South Africa.

Lala Ngoxolo Tata Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
