Westville were convincing 4-0 winners, away from home, against a very highly rated Affies team. Westville dominated in most facets of the game and were deserved winners at the end.

The game started at a high tempo with Westville getting out of the blocks quickest,  creating a good chance from the start of the game with just the finish letting them down. Affies created their own chance shortly after but also lacked the crucial finish. After the initial nervy stages, Westville took control and were dominating possession but again gave Affies a chance from a poor mistake in defense which Affies squandered.

Westville used this to their advantage, having been let off the hook , they attacked the Affies goal mouth and won a penalty corner with 10 minutes gone on the clock. The initial shot was well saved but Westville pounced on the loose ball to open the scoring, with Ethan de Charmoy getting the final touch. The goal gave Westville the impetus and they grew in confidence winning another two penalty corners after some very good build up play. The first corner was well defended by Affies. The second resulted in Westville’s second goal. After a good block by the Affies goalkeeper, good second phase play saw  Westville’s striker, Ryan Colman, hammer the ball into the back of the net off the rebound.

Affies fought themselves back into the game, lifting their tempo and capitalizing on mistakes from Westville. They won themselves two penalty corners with both being defended well by the visitors. Westville had one more chance late in the first half with their fourth corner but this was cleared off the line by the postman after a good low flick by Matthew Davies. The teams went into the first half with a 2-0 advantage to the boys from Durban.

The second half started at a high tempo with both teams trying to take control early on. Westville had a numerical advantage with just 2 minutes on the clock with Affies going a man down after being punished with a green card. The game continued in this light with a midfield battle limiting circle entries and chances in the final quarter. Both teams continued to press hard and lift their game with Westville eventually adding to their first half strikes. Capitalizing on an Affies mistake, Mbuso Mgobozi produced a great finish beating the goalkeeper on his inside post. This gave the in-form WBHS striker his 12th goal of the season. Just minutes later Westville made it 4-0 after some great pressing by Matthew Davies who intercepted and fed Captain, Ryan Bradfield, who reverse sticked the ball into the side netting, racking up his 13th of the season. Westville finished the game with 10 men after a shoulder to shoulder duel ended up with Ryan Colman being punished with a yellow card.

A top performance from the Westville boys at the end of the day, with an ever improving team, they will need to continue this run with some tough fixtures coming up.
