Despite the gloomy weather and the terrible electrical storm experienced on Friday night we were fortunate to still have a number of cricket matches take place last weekend against Northwood. Out of a total of 27 matches scheduled to take place, only 5 matches were called off before a ball being bowled and 2 called off half way through.

Cricket at Westville:

The 1st team game was unfortunately called off without a ball being bowled. The U16A team had a very good win against Northwood after being 90/8 eventually reaching 140 all out.   50 runs  from Haydan Bowman helped Westville to victory. Bowman was also involved in the bowling side with figures of 3/20 supported by Captain Jarryd Cook with figures of 3/31. Through some dedicated fielding and tight bowling, the Northwood U16A team was bowled out for 86/10.

The u14A team game was called off in late afternoon due to the storm which blew in at around 16h00.  Westville’s U14A batted first and ended up with a total of 287/9. Runs coming from senior batters, Maharaj 77, Hayes 74 and Matkovich 52. Northwood ended on 153/5, needing 135 to win off 17 overs. The home side can feel justifiably disappointed that the game had to be called off .

Cricket at Northwood:

The 2nd team match was delayed by 40 minutes due to wet outfields but eventually got underway with Northwood winning the toss and deciding to put Westville in to bat. Westville got off to a flyer with Chris Pentz fresh from injury scoring 64 in little or no time. He was well supported by the middle order with Lombard and Gervasoni scoring 42 and 32 respectively. Westville eventually ended on 205/10. Northwood went in to bat and unfortunately could not maintain any partnerships and were eventually dismissed for 129 all out. Chris Pentz again in the mix with figures of 3/24. Westville won by 76 runs.

The U15A team once again gave a demanding performance despite the game being reduced to a 40 over game. Westville lost the toss and were put in to bat on a wet pitch. The Westville boys showed great composure and patience and ended up with a total of 224/7 with senior wicket keeper batsman Jandre Viljoen dominating the bowlers and ending up with 85 not out. Northwood were not up to the task and were bowled out for 120/10. Philasander Gwala taking 4/18 and Seth Rajakumar taking 3/26. Westville won by 104 runs.
