The sports results against DHS were generally pleasing, with WBHS winning 10 of the 13 Rugby games (77% success rate) and 8 of the 9 Hockey games with the only loss being on a ‘stagger’ against a higher DHS side.
It was a tough day on the field for the WBHS 1st Rugby team against a talented and motivated DHS team who were full value for their convincing win. Try-scorers for the WBHS 1st Rugby team were Matthew Crosson and Luntu Kili, while DHS ran in seven tries in a one-sided match. The WBHS 1st Hockey team were impressive in their 11-2 win.
After a pleasing start, the freakish injury toll of the 1st Rugby squad, which commenced from the third local match, has put paid to expectations of a successful season. There are now 21 injuries in the original squad of 24 players, and the coaches have been unable to field a consistent team this season, having to call on reserves from the 3rd and 4th teams for the past three weeks. Several of the injuries have involved surgery and have been to prospective KZN representative players. KZN trials will also place further demands on players hoping to be cleared for play towards the end of the season.
The Under 16A and 14A Rugby teams continued to show good form in their victories, while the U15A team can rue certain errors which resulted in a close loss. The 2nd team, depleted by promotions to the 1st team, put up a gutsy performance in their win.
