Volleyball has grown in popularity at Westville Boys’ High School over the last decade. Today the School is arguably the strongest volleyball playing school in KZN.
Approximately ten teams from WBHS are fielded each year across the U14, U15, U16 and Open age groups.
The completion of the Multi-Purpose Centre in 2006 undoubtedly added to the prowess of volleyball at WBHS. The facility is a world-class venue for volleyball, and hosts an annual league tournament between the strongest school teams in the province including WBHS, Northwood, Glenwood, Kingsway, New Forest, Pinetown and Queensburgh.
One Westville Old Boy, Richard Payne, has played volleyball at the international level. He represented South Africa at volleyball in 1996 and 1998, and at beach volleyball in 1996 and 1997. From 2004 to 2011 he played the beach volleyball circuit in the UK, featuring in the top 5 players on the circuit each year.
