Westville BHS 1st Indoor Hockey team retained the KZN Schools Indoor League trophy by beating DHS 2-1 in Tuesday nights’ final. The huge thunderstorm which raged overhead failed to drown the excitement of the large crowd of supporters from both schools who braved the deluge to support their respective teams.
The Westville 1st team was confident leading into the final after defeating all their opponents in the pool games: Kingsway 9-1, Kloof 11-0 and Clifton 5-4. In the Semi-finals Westville came up against Northwood and won the game comfortable 9 – 1. DHS who also went through their pool games undefeated, beat Kloof in the other Semi-Final.
The final was an evenly contested affair but the Highway team had the edge over their Durban rivals and went ahead by two goals at the half. Westville goals came from their KZN U18 Indoor players: Jarryd Jones and Davyn Keuter. DHS rallied in the final quarter and scored a goal to make the final few minutes a tense affair, however the home team held their composure to close out the game and lift the trophy.
The WBHS 2nd Team also remained undefeated, beating Crawford LL 1st Team 4-2 in the play-off to gain promotion to the A League in 2011
The U16A won their A League and the B Team were runners up in the B League
The U14A and B Teams are due to play each other this week for the winners position in the A League
