Westville Boys’ High School entertained Midlands rivals Hilton College this weekend for a competitive day of summer sport.
On the Cricket pitch, the 1st XI were formidable with ball-in-hand, restricting a very talented Hilton batting lineup to just 151 runs. Troy Botha and Anthony Dunford notched commendable figures of 4/29 and 3/22 respectively which looked to put Westville in a strong position going into lunch. Unfortunately, Westville weren’t able to do the job with the bat and were bowled out for just 101 – giving Hilton a 50-run win.
Our U14A side, however, secured an incredible win bowling a largely confident Hilton side out for 128 runs with Max Robertson guiding his side to a massive 8 wicket win ending the day on an unbeaten 51. Westville notched up 128 for 2, bowling Hilton out for 128.
Basketball bounced back this weekend after a tough set of fixtures against College the previous weekend. Of the 14 games played on the court against Hilton, WBHS took the lion’s share of the spoils, winning 11, drawing 1 and losing 2.
With our 1st and 2nd sides away on tour, the U16A game was the showpiece fixture which saw Westville come away with a 26-24 win. Special mention must also go to our U16B side who were tenacious competitors. Their match display had opposition coaches and referees complimenting the boys and coaches. Westville won that game 37-15.
Things didn’t go as planned in the pool for our Water polo boys. Despite a strong and early start for WBHS in the 1st team game, Hilton worked their way back to finish the stronger team on the day and the game went to Hilton 5-7. The U14B side showed resolve, drawing 5-5 with Hilton.
