There can be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Westville Old Boy (2008), Chad Ho is the country’s top male open water swimmer, when he raced to his fourth consecutive open men’s title at the 40th a Quelle Midmar Mile on Sunday in a time of 17 minutes and 57 seconds.
Until last year, no male swimmer had won three titles in a row until Chad received this honour.
His determination was clear on Sunday as the Westville star positively took control of the race, swimming at the front and dictating the pace. It was in the last 400 metres, however, that Chad’s acceleration proved too much for his nearest challengers, Troyden Prinsloo and Danie Marais.
Further congratuations to Westville Old Boy, Sebastian Crawford (2011) who won the Disabled Midmar Mile in a time of oo:25:01.
Once again, WBHS had a very strong presence in the Men’s Event and the following seven swimmers were placed in the Top 50:
20 Joshua Dannhauser in a time of 00:20:13
21 Brendan Levy
32 Stephen Clarkson
34 Calvyn Justus
35 Paul van Achterbergh
42 Jordan le Clos
46 Hanro Jansen van Vuuren
