Congratulations to three of our former 1st XV players who have been contracted to the Sharks Rugby Union this year: Teague Loelly, Simelela Nkomo and Mambo Mkhize.
WBHS Director of Sport, old boy and former Sharks and Springbok player Waylon Murray gives us some insight:
“Simelela Nkomo was one of the most dependable rugby players I have seen in high school. Blessed with great athleticism and outstanding rugby intelligence, we knew from day one he would be a vital cog in the rugby first team. Nkomo was a natural leader and was appointed deputy head boy in 2020. These leadership attributes made him very important to the culture of Westville Boys High School. We are confident that he will continue to flourish and add to the legacy of the Sharks Rugby Union”.
“Teague Loelly was a natural sportsman from day one at Westville Boys’ High School. Loelly was gifted both at water polo and rugby, earning SA representation in both sporting codes. Known for having a technical brilliance that not many athletes possess, one can confidently say Teague will continue to work hard to achieve his goals”.
“Last but certainly not least, Mambo Mkhize has all the traits to become a professional rugby player. Mkhize’s physicality and flare make him a unique threat in the Centre position. He has settled into the Sharks set-up and will be mentored by former springbok JP Pietersen who will be his coach during the U20 competition. We know Mkhize is excited for the future, and will look to take this opportunity with both hands and continue to make all of us Griffins proud”.
“We are very excited that our 1st XV players have been contracted to the Sharks Rugby Union. These accomplishments cannot be understated. We are proud of their progress and look forward to their development over the next few years”.
