The 1st Rugby and Hockey teams return home victorious after brave performances today.

The Hockey boys started the ball rolling with a well-deserved 2-0 win. After the first three chukkas with no scores on the board, it appeared that the two teams were evenly matched, both defending well to resist the attacks of their opponents. It was in the final chukka that the Westville boys took advantage of two creative opportunities for Josh Davies and Ethan Matkovitch to seal the match 2-0.

The 1st Rugby team overcame a tough challenge after finding themselves down 7-31 early in the 2nd half against a dominant Affies team. At that stage it certainly looked as if the Affies floodgates would open.

However the Westville boys raised themselves into 6th gear, resisting onslaughts on their line and courageously charging down Affies clearances on four occasions which put the Affies boys on the back foot.

The drama in the last three minutes was pulsating stuff, with Westville 28-31 down and losing the ball on the Affies try line. Affies then attacked deep into Westville territory. However the Westville boys regained  possession which led to a dramatic try in the corner in front of delirious Westville supporters.

It would be unfair to highlight players in what was an impressive team effort from Westville. However for the record the five tries were scored by captain Gareth Beavan, Braden van Wyk and Simelela Nkomo with Okuhle Siyeni scoring two. Grove Akker confidently converted all five tries.

Special mention should also be made of the U16A Rugby team who went down narrowly in a tight encounter 22-28.
