Westville Boys’ High School Tennis team recently attended the 13th annual St Benedict’s Tennis Tour, for the 5th year running.

The opening game did not go our way and we unfortunately lost 0-4 to Selborne College.  The boys put in huge effort and showed good character.  However,  we lost to the better team on the day.

Our next fixture was against the hosts, St Benedicts. Off the back of our loss to Selborne College, our boys felt it was their duty to redeem themselves and rose to the challenge. They snatched a 4-0 victory over our hosts.  Great sportsmanship was displayed by both sides.

Next, our boys made easy work of Cornwall Hill College,  bagging another 4-0 win.  Our last  match of the day was against St David’s and we managed to edge past them with a 3-1 win.

As a result of our loss against Selborne College, we finished 2nd in our group.  This resulted in us playing against St Stithian’s for the 3rd & 4th playoff. The boys put in a huge effort but unfortunately fell short, losing 0-4 and finishing 4th overall, out of 10 schools.

Louis van der Westhuizen and Abdul Hafeez Karime both received good sportsmanship cards for showing excellent character, fair play and graciousness.

The boys definitely did their school proud and the coaches felt honoured to take them on this tour.
