It seems only fitting that 20 years on the Head Boy of 1991 is elected as the Chairman of the School Governing Body at Westville Boys’ High School.

Richard Payne has come full circle, and with one son currently at Westville Boys’ High School, and another one due to start in Grade 8 2022, he certainly has a vested interest in taking the School forward in the years to come.

“As a previous Head Prefect, I am a passionate Old Boy of the school, and would like to support the school in moving into the “future world of education”, said Richard.

A chartered accountant by profession, Richard qualified locally with Ernest and Young, spent 15 years living and working in the United Kingdom in mergers and acquisitions and business consultancy before moving back to SA in 2013. He currently works at RCL Foods in the Business Transformation Management Office.

“As a chartered accountant I am passionate about making sure that financial integrity, planning and management are robust and are critical for the ongoing success of the school”.

“I am also a firm believer in the fact that the only thing that is certain in the future is that “things will change”. We as individuals need to be ensuring that our kids are capable of coping with this. I am a huge supporter in the development of children’s characters, values and principles. In my view, wholistic education is the way we can best support the individual, our community and ultimately South Africa. We have to ensure our education institutions enable our children to see and do things differently”.
