WBHS took on DHS this weekend which had all the makings of a great match. DHS won the toss and went in to bat first with both openers looking set to bat a long time but after putting on a partnership of 18 runs DHS lost their 1st wicket, opening up an end to bowl to. The second DHS partnership which was Westville’s biggest threat saw a total of 28 runs being scored and the opening batsman was gone for 26 runs.

Westville did well to get them out before the 30th over. Bruce Kerr who was fielding at short cover did well to hang on to a ball hit to his right like a tracer bullet. This changed the course of the game as the top batter S Makhanya was bowled out. From there on WBHS managed to get regular wickets and restricted DHS to a total of 126/9. The bowler of the innings was Jason Oakes with figures of 4/41 and Luke Schlemmer with figures of 3/12.

WBHS went in to bat briefly before lunch – always a tricky situation but they managed to survive the initial onslaught unscathed.

After lunch, opening batsman Bruce Kerr lost his wicket after scoring 11 and inform batters Nicholas Pentz and Luke Schlemmer were dismissed cheaply, both having scored very slowly, the pitch proving to be in favour of bowlers on the day. In the position of 62/3, Alex Whitelaw was up next taking on a determined bowling attack from DHS but managed a perfect run of 51 not out after facing 53 balls. On the other side helping him to get over the finish line was Jesse Smit who managed 3 runs off 16 balls.

Westville made the total of 129/4 in 38.1 overs and won the game by 6 wickets.

It’s been a good run for the WBHS team and they are hoping this good run continues into next week’s game against Glenwood.
