What a privilege it was to have old boy, Dr Zane Stenning (WBHS 2013), as our Guest of Honour at this year’s Excellence Awards.

His compassionate and thought-provoking address to the boys was inspiring, and his actions and achievements as a person and doctor are a testament to him and serve to reinforce the advice he imparted today.

After matriculating, Zane completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Wits University and he is currently employed at Groote Schuur Academic Hospital in Cape Town where he has been working exclusively in the respiratory medical team.

In March this year, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, he started a charitable organisation called Safe Space, also based in Cape Town, that feeds and houses the homeless.  Since March, the work of this organisation has spread to three major metros – Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.

While studying, he co-founded Zamelo, a private company specializing in Finance acquisitions. More recently, he has teamed up with fellow old boy, Shivaan Salligram, to establish SallStem Investments, venturing into the world of the SME sector of the economy.

The heart of Zane’s message at our Excellence awards was a message encouraging our boys to embrace failure, fear, vulnerability and sacrifice.

“Think about the happiness you intend to extract from the limited number of days on this planet”.

Zane, we are so proud of your achievements, and we Thank You for your valuable time and words of wisdom.

Incepto Ne Desistam  -Dr Stennning – You have not shrunk from your purpose.
