Westville’s Olympic swimmers Chad le Clos, Chad Ho, Charl van Zyl Crous, Leith Shankland and Olympic coach Graham Hill, must have been impressed with the performances of the country’s top schoolboy swimmers on Friday night.

The event was the 2013 WBHS Annual Invitational Gala, arguably the strongest boys’ schools gala in the country, involving 12 public and private schools from three provinces. This was the first major event in the School’s new pool and the capacity crowd were kept entertained throughout the evening with closely contested races. The verdict was that, apart from the talent on display,  the 2.2m uniform depth of the new pool also contributed to the fast times and several new records.

WBHS won the gala by 39 points from Grey College (Free State), with the remaining places in the top five being filled by Clifton, Pretoria Boys’ High and St David’s (Gauteng).
