I cannot recall a year that has started off with as many exceptional achievements as 2012 has done.
In January, we were greeted with the news that our Matric class of 2011 had maintained the reputation of excellent academic achievement in the NSC exams. This was followed by the invincible performances of our Swimmers who once again swept all before them and enhanced their reputation as KZN and National champions. Our 1st Cricket team then captured the title of KZN T20 Champions. Not to be outdone, our Golf 1st team and our Squash 1st team were also crowned KZN Schools Champions in their provincial events.
The Winter sports have also started off in successful vein, as evidenced by our 1st Rugby XV who have shown their mettle in tight victories over Glenwood and Hilton, and the Performing Arts department is building up to a major production of Grease next term.
But, as I have stated on many occasions before, our success is not measured alone by the wins and achievements of our top performers in each discipline. We remain committed to our mission of Nurturing All-Round Excellence, with our aim of developing well-balanced individuals of good character and ensuring that every boy benefits from and adds value to the academic, sporting, cultural and leadership activities offered by the School. The Dusi drama that involved two of our Matric boys was one event that epitomised the character and the type of selfless courage to which we hope all Westville boys will aspire.
I hope you will enjoy reading the reports on this and other events that have made Term 1 of 2012 such an eventful experience at WBHS.
