The second term ended on a sad and tragic note with the untimely deaths of two key members of staff, Peter Bees and Germain Leonard. Our sincere condolences go to their families.
The second term of every year is traditionally the busiest of every year, packed with mid-year exams, a major dramatic production and high profile fixtures and tours in several major sports.
We were encouraged by the impressive performances of our ever-improving Hockey teams. We anticipated that our top Rugby teams in each age-group would be seriously tested by our entry into the festivals featuring the top teams in the country, and they generally acquitted themselves well. However, we had not anticipated the unprecedented level of Rugby politics and media attention this term in sagas relating to over-age players, imported players and banned substances.
We undertook the great trek to Johannesburg for our away fixtures against King Edward, and we were pleased with the progress of our sportsmen and their enthusiastic participation in sports such as Tennis, Athletics and Volleyball.
We are extremely proud of the three old boys Swimmers and one coach selected for the South African Olympic team, and the achievements of our current boys at national and inter-provincial levels in a variety of sports.
The World Leading Schools Association (WLSA) comprises the world’s leading schools, 50 from the East and 50 from the West. We were honoured that our WLSA membership has been formalised, making WBHS the only African country admitted that elite body.
