Although the 1st and 2nd Rugby teams were out-gunned by very successful and talented Glenwood teams, WBHS generally took the overall honours in what was a keenly-contested weekend of sport against traditional rivals.

The 1st Rugby team started off well in the first half with an opportunist try by Grovē Akker to take an early lead 7-3. Glenwood responded with a try of their own to take a 10-7 at half time. However, in the last few minutes of that half, WBHS were decimated by a series of injuries to four key players Ockie Barnard (collar-bone), Dean Schräder (elbow) and Luntu Kili (tongue) before the tragic hip-dislocation of play-maker Grovē Akker. This stalled the game for 30 minutes, while Akker was attended to on the field before being transported to hospital. Thankfully there appears to be no breakage, and Grovē will be wearing a supportive brace for the next three months. These injuries seriously compound the serious of injuries and niggles suffered in the KES festival two weeks ago. After the 30-minute delay, the WBHS team were unable to get going in the 2nd half, and the impressive Glenwood team ran in a series of well-worked tries for a 47-7 win.
Highlights in the Rugby results were the impressive victories by the Under 14A (38-19) and Under 15A teams (22-13). Special mention is made of the courageous Under 16A team who almost pulled off a memorable victory, being denied by what was adjudged to a forward-pass in the last minute, in going down 26-32. The hard work being put in by this team seems to be paying dividends.
The 1st Hockey team was faced with tough encounters against their Glenwood counterparts, and came back from a 1-3 deficit to earn a 3-3 draw. Generally the Hockey results went the way of WBHS.
