For the second successive year the WBHS 1st Water Polo team finished runners up at the Clifton Water Polo Tournament this week.

In their pool games, wins were recorded against Pearson with the final score 12-2 to Westville, followed by the game vs Kearsney with the final score being 11-6 to Westville.  The final pool game was against Glenwood which was also won by Westville with a score of 10-2, placing Westville top in Pool C. 

In the quarter final the team played Hilton who were placed second in Pool A. This was a very evenly matched game which Westville won 10-7. With this win in the bag,  Westville progressed to the semi-final vs Reddam (Constantia). 

In a closely contested and nail-biting semi-final against Reddam the full-time score was locked at 6-6, resulting in a penalty shootout to separate the two sides  – Westville won 11-9! 

The final was also a closely contested match with Clifton beating Westville 10 -7. Goal scorers for WBHS were Jordan Mills (2), David Macdonald (2), Blake Holmes (1), Trent Lilford (1) and Teague Loelly (1). 

The Westville team reflected a good mix of senior and junior players with David MacDonald, Jordan Mills, Teague Loelly, Trent Lilford, and goalkeeper Ethan Bush the standout senior players. Younger players who also impressed were Josh Scully, Blake Holmes, Ethan Elder, Josh Parry and Aaron Tarr. First time players at this tournament, Casper Wessels, Jordan Deeble and Keagan Potgieter, gained valuable experience which augers well for the future.
