Congratulations to the winning team!

Westville’s Under 19A Softball team finished off another unbeaten season in style last Friday night. Conditions on the night were appalling with the rain bucketing down at times and the first game against St Henry’s having to be called short towards the end of the third frame,  with the current champions way in front. The Westville batters had already done the damage in the first innings  with the highways team leading 7-1. By the time rain stopped the game, Westville had an unassailable 14-3 lead and were declared the winners. Aron Hinchcliffe,  Westville’s star pitcher had done most of the damage to the St Henry’s batters.

The  rain stopped for the final game of the evening against DHS. Westville chose to field first on a very muddy diamond. DHS managed to score three runs in the first frame. Westville managed to double that and led 6-3 at the end of the second frame.  DHS came out to bat and Hinchcliffe again showed why he is rated as one of the best pitchers in the league, by restricting DHS to 2 runs. The Westville infield also did a great job in such slippery conditions to only give away those  two runs.

In the third frame Westville sealed the game by scoring the maximum seven runs to win the game 13-5.

Great credit must be given to Westville’s captain Callum Yates,  who marshalled his troops exceptionally well in very adverse conditions. His leadership also played a great part in ensuring that Westville always played as a tightly knitted unit to achieve another undefeated season.
