Saturday saw the final game of Westville’s KZN season, in Pietermaritzburg’s Harry Gwala Stadium against Maritzburg College.

College started the game well and for the first 10 minutes controlled possession and the tempo of the game. Westville dug deep and stayed extremely well organized, which restricted College to hopeful long strikes that were easily dealt with by Boshoff in goals.

Westville were very good on the counter attack and came close to scoring on several occasions. Their sharp counter attacks paid off when in the 12th minute they took the lead after a fantastic long pass from Ndimande was neatly collected by Braithwaite who slotted the ball past the College goal keeper.

After the goal, Westville began to gain the majority of possession and their forays into the College goal mouth became more and more dangerous.

One such attack resulted in Patel receiving the ball 30 meters from goal. In one fluid movement he pivoted and struck a thunder bolt into the top corner to put WBHS 2-0 up at half time.

The second half was much of the same with Westville being better organized than their College opponents. Ten minutes into the second half Westville killed off the game as a contest when after some brilliant interplay on the left side of the field between Buthelezi and Ndimande, Ndimande slammed the ball past the College keeper to put the game beyond College’s reach.

College managed to finally find the visitor’s net in the last movement of the game to make the end score 3-1.

It was a fitting way to end a great KZN season for Westville. They must surely be rated as the best school boy side in KZN this year having only lost one of the 20 games that they played. To boot they also were unbeaten in two tournaments, with the second tournament , the Kloof Tournament having National status.
