Westville Boys’ High School’s U16 team emerged as the top school in the KZN U16 Top Schools’ Hockey Tournament held in the holidays.
The strong side had already recorded an unbeaten domestic season.
Their first encounter was a tough game against Michaelhouse but the side held their own after goals from Matthew Davies and Lethu Thomo to win the game 2-1.
In their second encounter against Kokstad WBHS scored early with a goal from Joshua Herd.
Westville went on to score another 4 goals via Ryan Allen, Chad Carney, Keagan Gibbon and Matthew Davies.
In their game against Port Shepstone, Westville dominated play and two Westville players recorded hattricks – Chad and Caleb Carney. The game ended on 8-0 to Westville.
Westville had to beat Glenwood to win the tournament and it was a well contested match and one of the best games in the tournament with Westville winning closely 3-2

The team will now travel to Pretoria from 10-16 December to participate in the National Finals where the winning schools from each province will play against each other.
