Westville’s 1st X1 outplayed visitors Glenwood to claim a convincing victory.  Westville’s 1st team led the way on a cricketing day in which the results were overwhelming in Westville’s favour. They won eighteen with Glenwood winning only two of the twenty games played.

Westville lost the toss and were asked to bowl first by Glenwood on what looked like a batting wicket. Westville’s bowlers were on song from the outset and took 2 early wickets to have Glenwood on 13 for 2 after 4 overs.

A good partnership from the next Glenwood batsmen steadied the visitors, taking them to 58 for 2.  At that point,  Westville introduced Keegan Gibbon into their attack. His excellent bowling earned him 3 quick wickets which saw Glenwood at 66 for 6 and in all sorts of trouble. Two more wickets fell for the next 31 runs leaving Glenwood on 97 for 8 after 28 overs.  A patient innings of 54 by Paul from Glenwood helped them get to a respectable 153 for 10.

Westville’s’ Gibbon with 3/38 and Josh Brady with 4/22 were the pick of their bowlers.  Great fielding on the day by the home team also kept Glenwood under pressure and restricted the visitors to a score which was quite easily achievable by the hosts.

Westville’s innings got off to a flying start with Sam Gervasoni cover driving the first ball of Westville’s innings through the covers for 4 runs. The hosts then lost their first wicket with the score at 25 for 1 after 4 overs.

Captain Carl Jairaj in action

A consolidating partnership between Caleb Carney and Brandon McCabe then brought the score to 72/2.  Westville continued to keep the score rate ticking over, although they lost another three wickets before they reached the Glenwood target of 153 with 5 wickets down.   Westville’s Captain, Carl Jairaj,  remained cool and calm at the crease towards the end to steer his side through for a great 5 wicket win.  McCabe was the top scorer with 35.
