Westville first XV end on a high after playing DHS

Westville showed their supremacy from the start and the DHS defence where pushed hard to withstand the onslaught of multiple attacks.  In the 4^th minute of the game, on their own throw from a lineout 22 metres out from their own try line, Westville lock forward Jordan Martin was able to poach DHS’s ball and with quick hands by flyhalf Reece McHardy and centres Brad Ellse and Lindo Buthelezi put winger Kyel Lubbe into the right hand corner unopposed.  Fullback Louis Snyman converted to take the score to 7-0.

The next Westville try came in the 18^th minute from an attacking lineout about 22meters from the DHS try line. After a well executed catch drive from the lineout, the Westville backs again showed a fine display of ball handling and by moving the ball quickly to inside centre Brad Ellse, managed to beat the DHS defence and sailed through easily to score in the right hand corner again. Snyman this time pulled the ball across the goal face missing his target to take the score to 12-0 in Westville’s favour.

Shortly before the half-time whistle,  Westville scrumhalf Kyan Braithwaite took a quick tap and passed to alert hooker Alex Voster who crashed over at short range in the left hand corner.   Louis Snyman struck the right hand upright and converted to take the score line to 19-0.  DHS’s first and only points of the match came almost immediately after the ensuing kick-off when a Westville player was penalised from a kick chase as he was deemed offside. DHS Flyhalf  stepped up and  converted the penalty to end the first half 19-3.

In the second half, DHS tried really hard to apply pressure and put the ball through phases, but the Westville defence held firm and kept them at bay. Tries by Jordan Martin and replacement right winger Donovan Pieters took the score to 29-3.

In the last quarter of the game, Westville’s superior conditioning and excellent structure saw them really break away and they produced some lovely attacking play. Next over the try-line was Louis Snyman who scored  under the poles after some lovely phase play.  Snyman converted his own try to push the lead up to 36-3. In the 50^th minute, Westville scrumhalf Kyan Braithwaite again showing his constant threat around the fringes, scored under the poles from a snipe 5 metres out when the DHS defence were too slow to get into position.  Snyman converted again to make it 42-3 and end the game on a high for Westville.
