Westville Boys’ High 1st Hockey Team hosted St Charles on Friday 8 March. After last year’s 1 – 1 draw away, the team was ready for a competitive first game of the season.

Westville started well and put pressure on the St Charles back four. Constant attacks resulted in a short corner in the 1st 10 minutes, Captain Nick Finn scoring a well executed drag flick in the bottom corner. A power surge cut out the lights and a 40 minute delay put both teams on the back foot. Once play got under way,  Westville continued play in the St Charles half resulting in a well executed reverse stick goal by Cameron Harburn.

The 2nd half saw the game open up, both teams looking to find a way into their oppositions circle. Cameron Harburn was again on the score sheet with a well deflected goal from open play.   Scrappy play resulted in Javed Mea scoring a goal and Brandon Watkins scored the 5th goal to complete a well deserved win and great start to a long season.
