WBHS Captain Jason Oakes successfully led his team to a 6-0 victory against Hilton on Saturday.
Westville’s First Team have had an impressive start to their season. After a very successful preseason festival at Kloof, they had already beaten Northwood and Michaelhouse at the start of the domestic season.
Saturday’s encounter against another unbeaten side, Hilton College, was expected to be a close exciting affair.
The game started off rather tensely as both sides sized each other up and as a result it tended to be rather scrappy. Westville eventually exploited a lapse in Hilton’s defense and Lwando Saunders, slipped a through ball to Bongani Ndimande who calmly looped it passed the goalie.
The game then opened up a bit with both teams attempting to play a more fluid game. With only 2 minutes to go before the break and after some great footwork from Lindo Buthelezi who beat several defenders, the ball was crossed to Shane Ball who tapped it past the goal keeper putting WBHS 2 goals ahead.
After the break, the game really opened up which suited Westville. They scored their third goal shortly after the restart. An accurate long throw-in from the far right side of the field allowed Kyan Braithwaite to tap the ball into the back of the net.
This was followed shortly afterwards by a clinical finish from Bradley Smith who volleyed the ball into the far right post from a corner kick. After this, Hilton conceded two further goals as Westville launched attack after attack.
Braithwaite grabbed his second goal after a brilliant cross flick from Buthelezi . The scoring was completed when substitute Mohammed Patel scored a brilliant 6th goal on the volley in the final minutes of the game.
The final score was an impressive 6-0 to Westville.
